Wildfire burns nearly 1,000 acres in Jackson County

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A wildfire burned nearly 1,000 acres Thursday in Jackson Co.

Sheriff Tim Morse says it started as a controlled burn north of Delia, and grew to encompass an area from 166th to 182nd near G Rd.

The Kansas Dept. of Emergency Management said in a tweet that Tanker 95 was dispatched to Jackson County to help contain the fire. Morse said the aerial unit mad a couple passes over the area.

Morse said only grass, trees, and hay bales burned. No structures were damaged.
