The next generation Air Tanker

After many years of speculation and rumors, the United States Forest Service has finally decided that it is time to stop cutting bait and actually start fishing. On November 30th, the agency posted a solicitation for bids for what they call the “Next Generation Air Tanker”.

Rebuilding the Fleet

At one time the United States heavy air tanker aerial firefighting fleet numbered in the mid forties. Attrition, accidents and the demise of several air tanker companies saw that number decline to just nine only a few years ago.
