Aerial Firefighters & Ground Crews Fight Table Mountain Fire in South Africa

A collaborative effort between the South African National Parks (SANParks) service, NCC Wildfires, and South Africa’s Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) are currently working both on the ground and deploying aerial assets to contain the fire, first reported to authorities at approximated 12:45 local time (SAST).

The fire started above Tafelberg Road, on the slopes of Table Mountain with emergency services quickly closing roads in the area. The City’s Fire and Rescue Service responded around 12:50pm. Since then the fire has jumped Kloof Nek Road towards Signal Hill.  Local authorities commented “We currently have 19 firefighting appliances on the scene, with seasonal firefighters also in attendance,”.

The city confirmed that four homes on Trek Road were on fire. Aerial support was initiated for the fire but has since been terminated due to high wind conditions that continue to fuel the fire.
